More info on the "Support the Second Amendment?" Option

#650 Quote

This is a new option at checkout that we introduced on 29 Oct 2015.

You have the options of adding $3 to your order that will be donated to either the NRA-ILA or the SAF (or both), and you can enter the "product" more than once to donate more, or you can leave it and donate nothing.

We will total up the donations and cut checks to the appropriate organizations at the end of each quarter, and we will also post a report of the amounts donated here. We will pick up any and all taxes and fees for the donations, meaning that the amount you select is the actual amount those organizations will get from us. No sales tax is calculated for donations.

We will NOT pass your information to these organizations.

National Rifle Association - Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA)

This is the actual workhorse of the NRA. They actually lobby and support or oppose certain bills, candidates, politicians, etc, and donating directly to them ensures that every penny goes toward supporting and defending the second amendment.

From their website:

"The Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) is the lobbying arm of the NRA. Established in 1975, ILA is committed to preserving the right of all law-abiding individuals to purchase, possess and use firearms for legitimate purposes as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution..."

Second Amendment Foundation (SAF)

Although less well known than the NRA, the SAF does some great work challenging unconstitutional gun laws, and was heavily involved in the historic Heller vs. DC decision.

From their website:

"The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) is dedicated to promoting a better understanding about our Constitutional heritage to privately own and possess firearms. To that end, we carry on many educational and legal action programs designed to better inform the public about the gun control debate."
